Ravens offense opener sizzles, but WR injuries loom

The Ravens offense opener burst back to life Sunday as Lamar Jackson and company piled up 506 yards in a 41-23 road win over the Indianapolis Colts. The performance marked a strong debut for head coach Jesse Minter, though injuries at wide receiver tempered the celebration.

Jackson threw for 324 yards with a touchdown and added a rushing score, looking fully recovered after a difficult 2025. Baltimore’s attack repeatedly stressed the Colts, even when pockets collapsed. On one third-and-16, Jackson eluded multiple rushers before sprinting for a first down. “Playing football,” the two-time MVP said.

Ravens offense opener highlights and hurdles

Zay Flowers exploded early, turning the first offensive snap into a 49-yard catch-and-run that set up a goal-to-go. He later broke free for a 54-yard touchdown to push the lead to 21-6. After five possessions he had five receptions for 150 yards, but hamstring tightness ended his afternoon.

Rookie Ja’Kobi Lane had a touchdown erased by a penalty before leaving with a wrist injury. With Devontez Walker inactive because of a groin injury, Baltimore’s receiving corps thinned quickly. Practice-squad elevation Chris Moore provided a spark with a 53-yard grab and helped on kick returns, but Flowers’ status for next week will be closely watched.

Derrick Henry powered the ground game with 144 yards and three touchdowns. Tight end Mark Andrews added four catches, and the offense looked crisp under new coordinator Declan Doyle. “We have so many gifted players,” Andrews said. “So many tools at his disposal, and he is using them.”

Penalties, special teams and defense

Despite the big numbers, Baltimore’s offense stumbled with penalties, drawing 10 flags for 86 yards, most on the line. A hold on new center Jovaughn Gwyn nullified a touchdown, and first-round pick Vega Ioane was called for holding twice in the first half.

Kicker Tyler Loop, who faced scrutiny after an uneven preseason, delivered field goals of 57 and 45 yards, the first a career long. Minter praised the kicker’s preparation and resilience.

Defensively, the Ravens forced two turnovers but surrendered 102 rushing yards on 20 attempts. Minter noted there is room to tighten up against the run.

Historic day, next up

It was the first time in franchise history the Ravens posted a 300-yard passer, a 150-yard receiver and a 100-yard rusher in the same game. Baltimore hosts New Orleans in the home opener this weekend. The Saints fell 31-30 in overtime at Detroit in Week 1.
