What We Publish
We cover breaking news, politics, business and the economy, sports, climate and the environment, crime and justice, and lifestyle from across the United States, along with international developments that are relevant to American readers.
Our goal is to give readers a clear, useful and timely understanding of important stories without unnecessary hype. We prioritize accuracy, relevance, context and readability in how stories are presented.
How We Source Our News
Our coverage is built from credible reporting and primary information. We monitor established news organizations, wire services, official government sources, courts, public agencies, company statements, research institutions and other reliable sources relevant to the story.
Automated systems help us monitor a large number of feeds and identify newsworthy developments efficiently. They are part of our discovery and production workflow, but our published articles are not intended to be simple copies of source material. Stories are selected and prepared for The Trade Wind audience with their own structure, wording and presentation, with additional context, background, source links and related coverage added where appropriate.
When a story materially relies on reporting or information from another publisher or primary source, we aim to identify and link to the relevant source where available. We do not knowingly source from websites that publish fabricated or deliberately misleading information.
How Our Newsroom Works
The Trade Wind is a digital-first publication that uses automation to help monitor developments, organize information and support a high-frequency publishing workflow. Automation assists the process, but it does not change our responsibility for accuracy, attribution, corrections or the quality of what appears on the site.
Our publishing standards require that stories remain faithful to the underlying facts, avoid fabricated quotes or claims, and provide readers with enough context to understand the subject. Where useful, we include links to official records, primary sources, related coverage and other relevant material so readers can explore the story further.
We do not use generated imagery to depict real events or real people as though it were documentary evidence. Where an image is illustrative rather than a photograph of the event described, we do not present it as a factual record of that event.
Accuracy and Corrections
We work to publish accurate information and recognize that news can change quickly. When reliable new information becomes available, an article may be updated to reflect the latest known facts.
If you believe something we have published is inaccurate, incomplete or misleading, email us at aloha@thetradewind.org with the article link and an explanation of the issue. We review correction requests and make changes when warranted.
When we correct a material factual error, we update the article and, where appropriate, note what changed. Where a source we relied on later issues a correction or retraction, we review our coverage and update or remove information as necessary.
Editorial Independence
The Trade Wind is independently operated. Advertisers, sponsors and outside parties do not control which stories we publish or how we cover them. Commercial relationships are kept separate from editorial decisions.
We aim to present straight-news coverage fairly and without partisan advocacy. Story selection is based on news value, relevance and reader interest rather than political alignment.
Opinion and Analysis
Where we publish opinion, commentary or analysis, we label it clearly so readers can distinguish it from straight-news reporting.
