Michele Tafoya ICE rollout concerns surfaced Sunday as the Minnesota Republican Senate candidate faulted state leaders and former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem for what she described as a poorly executed enforcement effort in the state.
Tafoya said she had already stated publicly that the ICE rollout in Minnesota was mishandled, adding that Noem shared responsibility for the situation. She argued the approach created confusion and undermined confidence in how immigration enforcement should be carried out.
According to Tafoya, Minnesota’s leadership failed to coordinate effectively with federal authorities and local communities, which she said contributed to operational missteps and public uncertainty. She also said Noem, who previously led the Department of Homeland Security, bore blame for the strategy behind the effort.
While Tafoya did not provide a detailed alternative plan in her remarks, she called for clearer communication, better planning, and closer cooperation among federal, state, and local officials before any future enforcement actions.

Her comments reflect continuing political debate in Minnesota over immigration enforcement tactics and accountability for recent actions involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Tafoya said residents deserve transparent explanations about timing, scope, and community impacts when such operations are undertaken.
The candidate reiterated that border security and legal processes should be prioritized, while insisting that planning and public messaging must be improved to avoid repeating mistakes she attributed to both state leadership and Noem.
No responses from Minnesota officials or Noem were immediately available regarding Tafoya’s criticism.
