Dodgers beat Giants 2-0 behind Skubal, two solo homers

Dodgers beat Giants 2-0 on Friday night in San Francisco, powered by second-inning solo shots from Teoscar Hernández and Andy Pages and a dominant seven-inning outing by Tarik Skubal.

Shohei Ohtani went 0 for 4 with three strikeouts in his third game back after a 13-game absence due to right biceps discomfort.

Skubal, now 12-7, allowed three hits, struck out 10 without a walk, and recorded four consecutive punchouts during one stretch. It was his 10th start for the two-time defending World Series champions since arriving from Detroit on Aug. 2, and the Dodgers had won each of his previous six appearances. He entered the night 4-0 over his last four decisions across six starts since an Aug. 16 loss to Milwaukee.

The two-time reigning AL Cy Young Award winner logged his fourth double-digit strikeout game of the season, and his second with Los Angeles.

Roki Sasaki delivered a perfect eighth with two strikeouts before Tanner Scott closed it out for his 24th save. The game lasted 1 hour, 53 minutes, which MLB said was the second-fastest in the 27-year history of the ballpark and the quickest Giants-Dodgers matchup since a 1:50 contest on Aug. 30, 1958, the second game of a doubleheader.

Giants opener Yunior Marte, now 0-2, yielded both homers among six hits over five innings. Earlier Friday, San Francisco reclaimed former closer Camilo Doval off waivers after having traded him to the Yankees before the 2025 deadline.

Manager Dave Roberts said utility player Tommy Edman received a rest day and that he planned to sit some regulars or limit their innings in Sunday’s regular-season finale.

Los Angeles has held opponents to four runs or fewer in 108 games, going 82-26 in those contests.

The Dodgers are wrapping up their regular season schedule as they prepare for the postseason.

The win comes weeks after Los Angeles secured the division in a clincher over Cincinnati, as covered in Dodgers clinch NL West with 8-2 win over Reds.
