The Rainbow Wahine exhibition canceled this weekend on the Big Island after officials cited the looming threat from Tropical Storm Lala, delaying the first public look at Hawaii’s women’s volleyball team under new head coach Joshua Walker.
Saturday’s scheduled matchup against Hawaii Hilo at Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium was called off Thursday because of the approaching system, according to UH athletics. The team also scrapped a keiki clinic planned for this evening. The Rainbow Wahine had been set to travel to Hawai‘i island today.
Fans who purchased tickets will receive automatic refunds through the AudienceView platform. Those who bought in person can contact the Vulcans Ticket Office at 808-932-7802 for assistance.
UH will instead make its first appearance in front of fans on Monday against Chaminade at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center on Oahu. That contest comes 11 days before the regular-season opener against Georgia Southern in the Hawaiian Airlines Rainbow Wahine Volleyball Classic on Aug. 28.

Walker said earlier in the week he welcomed the chance to break up fall camp with game-like reps, noting the value of practicing travel, a home match environment, game logistics and timeouts. He added that exhibition play can highlight areas to adjust before opening weekend.
