Hawaii soccer opened its 2026 regular season with two narrow defeats last week, showing competitive signs against strong opposition despite difficult weather at Lower Campus Field.
The Rainbow Wahine dropped a 1-0 decision to nationally ranked Texas Tech on Thursday. Two days later, Hawaii took a 1-0 lead into the second half before Kansas State rallied for a 3-1 win on Saturday.
According to the program, both matches were played in challenging conditions, which tested depth and focus early in the campaign. Coaches and players emphasized the positives from long stretches of organized defending and stretches of possession that created chances, particularly in the opening hour against Kansas State.
Hawaii will look to build on the early lessons as the schedule continues at Lower Campus Field, with the group aiming to turn competitive performances into results.
Hawaii soccer eyes progress after tough opening week
The team’s emphasis now shifts to closing out matches, finishing opportunities, and sustaining intensity through the final whistle. With nonconference play still young, the Rainbow Wahine believe the early adversity can sharpen execution for the weeks ahead.
Hawaii next returns to training on Oahu intent on translating encouraging moments into points before conference play approaches.
