Uniqlo founder donation will support Hurricane Lala relief efforts in Hawaii, with a $3 million personal contribution from Tadashi Yanai and a pledge of up to 50,000 clothing items for those in need.
Yanai, who leads Uniqlo’s parent company Fast Retailing Co. Ltd., said the assistance is intended to help families and communities hit hard by the storm. The clothing donation will come through Uniqlo USA, according to the company.

Funds will be distributed to Aloha United Way, the Hawaii Community Foundation, Global Empowerment Mission and Hawaiian Council. Yanai said the company moved quickly out of concern for residents affected by Hurricane Lala and to contribute to ongoing relief.
“We were deeply saddened at the devastation caused by Hurricane Lala, and wanted to act quickly to support affected communities,” Yanai said, adding that Hawaii holds personal significance and expressing gratitude for leaders guiding the response.
Fast Retailing Co. Ltd., based in Tokyo, is a major global apparel group whose largest brand is Uniqlo, known for casual, functional basics and everyday wear.
Support welcomed by state leaders
Gov. Josh Green thanked Yanai and Fast Retailing for standing with Hawaii during recovery. He said the $3 million and up to 50,000 items of clothing will help meet immediate needs and support rebuilding after Hurricane Lala.
