State House District 17 voters will decide an Aug. 8 Democratic primary between incumbent Dee Morikawa and challenger Chad Schimmelfennig, with the winner advancing to meet Republican Misty Cluett in the Nov. 3 general election.
The seat has been held by Morikawa since 2010. State House District 17 covers Niʻihau and portions of South and West Kauaʻi, including parts of Omao, Kōloa, Poʻipū, Lawai, Kalāheo, ʻEleʻele, Hanapēpē, Kawaanui Village, Pākalāl Village, Waimea and Kekaha.
