Hurricane Fausto is expected to weaken before reaching the Central Pacific, but Honolulu officials are urging Oahu residents to use the weekend to update hurricane plans and supplies.
Mayor Rick Blangiardi said it is still too soon to know whether the system will affect the islands. He encouraged residents to take advantage of the advance notice and prepare for the remainder of hurricane season. In a statement, Blangiardi noted that preparedness is the best defense and recommended families confirm their plans, restock disaster kits, and enroll in emergency alerts.
According to the city, agencies are coordinating closely with the National Weather Service and the Hawaiʻi Emergency Management Agency while monitoring the storm’s progress.

- Review or update your family emergency plan.
- Assemble or restock emergency supplies, including at least 14 days of food, water, medications, and other essentials.
- Secure important documents and know evacuation zones if you live in coastal or flood-prone areas.

The Central Pacific hurricane season runs through Nov. 30. Officials said residents should remain prepared throughout the season regardless of the current forecast for Hurricane Fausto.
Officials also stressed that being ready for severe weather can help reduce the strain on emergency responders, as seen during other recent events such as the Anahola brush fire extinguished; no injuries reported.
