The Darius Muasau Youth Football Camp brought dozens of keiki to Mililani High School, giving local players a hands-on offseason experience with a hometown pro just days before New York Giants training camp begins. The event, held at Muasau’s alma mater, underscored the linebacker’s ties to Oahu and his commitment to supporting young athletes where his own journey began.
Darius Muasau Youth Football Camp highlights
According to organizers, the inaugural camp focused on fundamentals, teamwork, and character, with drills run on the Trojans’ home field. Muasau, a Hawaiʻi native who starred at Mililani before moving on to college and the NFL, spent the day working station to station, encouraging participants and sharing insights from the pros.
Parents and coaches said the chance for kids to learn directly from a current NFL player was a major draw. The camp emphasized safe technique, footwork, and position-specific skills, along with classroom-style sessions on preparation and discipline.
Giving back before Giants training camp
With the New York Giants set to open training camp on Thursday, Muasau chose to spend his final offseason weekend back home. He credited the Mililani community and his former coaches for laying the foundation of his career and said providing access and inspiration to local youth was a priority before returning to the East Coast.
Camp volunteers included local coaches and former high school teammates who helped run drills and mentor participants. Families lined the stands and track as campers rotated through stations, capping the day with autographs and photos.
Community roots, professional focus
Muasau’s appearance in Mililani served as a bridge between his NFL responsibilities and his Hawaiʻi roots. The linebacker kept the focus on development and humility, reinforcing the values shaped on Oahu fields.
As he heads into his third season with New York, he noted the importance of staying grounded, preparing the right way, and representing the islands with pride.
Organizers said they intend to make the Darius Muasau Youth Football Camp an annual event in Mililani, offering local kids consistent exposure to high-level coaching and a role model who shares their home field.
