Joeine Ho ashes will be scattered at Waimanalo Bay, across from Sea Life Park, on Thursday at about 10 a.m., honoring the matriarch of one of Hawai‘i’s most storied surfing families.
Ho, who died on April 10 at age 93, was the mother of surfers Michael Ho and the late Derek Ho. She also raised three daughters, Debbie, Maryann and Kuʻumomi, and was the grandmother of professional surfers Mason Ho and Coco Ho.
According to those close to the family, many surfers, paddlers and musicians connected with the Ho ‘ohana are expected to attend the shoreline gathering.

The scattering will take place along the Waimānalo coastline, a cherished gathering spot for the community and watermen. Friends are planning to join from land and sea to pay respects.
Many of those attending regularly take part in the Oahu sports schedule, from surf contests to paddle events.
Waimanalo Bay, located on the eastern shore of Oahu, is also a popular destination for residents and visitors, with information about its facilities and conditions available through the City and County of Honolulu at honolulu.gov.
