A High surf warning remains in effect for south-facing shores of Hawai‘i Island today and into the early morning hours of Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Honolulu.

County officials said Kahalu‘u Beach Park, Kohanaiki Beach Park and Old Kona Airport Park are closed.
Meteorologists reported a large, long-period south-southwest, 200-degree, swell combining with King Tides is producing significant wave run-up. The High surf warning also comes with an increased risk of widespread coastal flooding during afternoon high tides along south-facing shores.
Wave heights of 10 to 15 feet have been observed.
With the month’s highest tides and water levels running higher than predicted in some spots, forecasters warned that flooding is possible along all shorelines and in low-lying coastal areas, especially during the late afternoon and early evening.
