Tetris copyright infringement warning aimed at White House game

Tetris copyright infringement concerns surfaced Friday after The Tetris Company cautioned that a new White House online arcade game called “Build the Wall” appeared to mimic the classic puzzle title’s mechanics.

The site, which launched Thursday, showcases browser games styled after vintage arcade hits tied to President Trump’s policy themes. One of the featured titles, “Build the Wall,” employs falling block mechanics and line-clearing gameplay that closely track how Tetris works, according to the company.

The Tetris Company indicated that it is evaluating the game’s similarities and suggested the design may violate its intellectual property. While the company did not detail specific legal steps, it signaled that closely copying Tetris’s signature gameplay elements can constitute infringement.

Copyright experts note that video game protection can extend beyond graphics and branding to cover distinctive gameplay expression. Companies typically guard recognizable mechanics, and disputes often arise when new titles emulate iconic systems too closely.

The White House arcade site quickly drew attention for presenting policy-themed mini-games in the look and feel of classic cabinets. The “Build the Wall” title stood out for its resemblance to Tetris, prompting the company’s warning.

As of Friday, no formal legal action had been announced. The Tetris Company’s statement suggests the situation remains under review.
