Supporters on Oahu have filed a Tommy Waters complaint with the Hawaii Supreme Court, seeking to overturn a lower court decision that removed him from the East Oahu City Council race based on term limit restrictions.
According to filings, the challenge asks the high court to review a ruling that found Waters ineligible to run for the East Oahu seat because of term limits. Backers argue the decision should be reversed so his name can appear on the ballot.
Tommy Waters complaint reaches high court
The case centers on whether term limit rules bar Waters from seeking another term on the Honolulu City Council. The lower court concluded the restrictions apply to his candidacy, which led to his disqualification from the race.
Supporters contend the interpretation of the term limit provisions is incorrect and are urging the Hawaii Supreme Court to reinstate his eligibility. The court has not yet indicated when it will rule.
