Tropical Storm Fausto weakened from a hurricane Monday night and is forecast to continue tracking north of the Hawaiian Islands through late Wednesday. The Central Pacific Hurricane Center advises residents and visitors to monitor updates as the system passes to the north.
While the strongest winds and heaviest rain are expected to remain north of the state, forecasters said impacts will still be felt across the islands, particularly along east-facing shores.
Tropical Storm Fausto outlook
Surf generated by Tropical Storm Fausto will build westward across Hawaiʻi today, producing large surf and strong currents along exposed east-facing shores over the next few days, according to the National Weather Service. Beachgoers should use caution and heed local advisories.
Maximum sustained winds are near 60 mph, with higher gusts. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 140 miles, mainly to the northeast of the center, according to the Central Pacific Hurricane Center.
