The Hawaii Department of Health is alerting residents to a Sun Noodle recall affecting specific Sura Tanmen kits because of an undeclared fish ingredient in the soup base.
Honolulu-based Sun Noodle is voluntarily recalling 134 packages of Sura Tanmen Hot and Sour Flavor Premium Japanese Noodles & Soup Base kits after discovering that some kits were mistakenly packed with a soba sauce soup base that contains fish. The product labels do not disclose fish as an ingredient.
According to health officials, people with fish allergies or severe sensitivities could face a serious or potentially life-threatening reaction if they consume or are exposed to the product.

- Sura Tanmen, 15.4 ounces, individual plastic packages, UPC 085315054108, lot code 1226183.
- Sura Tanmen, 11.75 pounds, cardboard box containing 12 plastic packages, UPC 085315054105, lot code 1226183.
Sun Noodle said it initiated the recall after a consumer questioned the soup base ingredients, which did not match those typically included in Sura Tanmen kits. An internal review found the soba sauce with fish had been packed in error.
The company reported the issue was limited to a single production run and has been corrected. The recalled products were distributed only in Hawaii to Don Don Donki in Kapolei, Don Quijote, Times Supermarket, H Mart, Marukai, Nijiya Market, Tokyo Central and other local distributors.
The Department of Health said it is working with retailers to remove the affected items from shelves. The Hawaii Department of Health also oversees issues such as hemp enforcement and related public safety concerns across the islands.
What consumers should do
Anyone with the recalled product should not consume it. Customers can return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund.
As of now, there have been no reports of illness or adverse events linked to the recall. The Hawaii Department of Health continues to monitor the situation.
Symptoms of a fish allergy can include runny nose, hives or swelling, itching or tingling in or around the mouth and throat, diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, and asthma-like signs such as coughing, wheezing, chest tightness or shortness of breath. Anaphylaxis can also occur within minutes and requires immediate medical attention.
