A wind advisory Hawaii takes effect at noon today for six islands, bringing brisk trade winds and hazardous conditions, forecasters said.

The National Weather Service expects east-northeast winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph across portions of Oahu, Maui, Molokai, Kahoolawe, Lanai and Hawaiʻi Island. On the Big Island, the strongest winds will focus over interior areas from Kohala in the north to Kaʻū in the south. The advisory is scheduled to remain in place until 6 p.m. Saturday.
Meteorologists said winds will accelerate near mountaintops and ridges, downslope, through terrain gaps, and in spots typically exposed to strong trades.
Expected impacts and safety reminders
Forecasters warned of possible roof shingle damage, downed trees, and unsecured tents or awnings being blown away. Driving could be difficult for high-profile vehicles, especially on exposed roadways and in gusty gaps.
