The Big Island Now app rolled out a significant update in July, bringing faster loading, smoother navigation, and breaking news alerts to help users track local news, weather, entertainment, and more on their phones.
The latest version introduces a “Report It” feature that lets readers submit tips, photos, and videos directly through the app. With Tropical Storm Lala approaching, users are encouraged to share what they safely capture. Submissions selected for publication will be credited to the contributor.
To follow current conditions and forecasts, users can check the app’s weather section for up-to-the-minute updates or visit the National Weather Service for broader forecast information.
The app is free to download on the Apple App Store and Google Play. Those who already have it are advised to install the newest update to enable all recent improvements.
Breaking news alerts appear at the top of the app, making it easier to stay informed about major developments, including hazardous weather and road closures such as the Hulu Street Evacuation Drill in Waikoloa.
The refreshed home screen highlights top stories, quick category shortcuts, and an “In Case You Missed It” section to catch up on recent coverage. Users can also keep tabs on major statewide issues like infrastructure projects and emergency preparedness updates from the State of Hawaiʻi.
