Bronny James assigned to G League again by the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday, with the team also sending first-round pick Cameron Carr to the Coachella Valley Lakers, according to the club.
James has shuttled between the NBA and the G League throughout his three-year career. The oldest son of LeBron James has seen only late-game action during the Lakers’ 7-2 start, appearing in five games and averaging 0.8 points in 2.4 minutes per outing, even as home crowds have urged coach Darvin Ham to play him late in comfortable wins.
The Lakers retained Bronny James after his father left for the Philadelphia 76ers last summer. The guard has logged just 74 NBA appearances over three seasons, but he has produced in the G League, averaging 18.4 points and 4.4 assists across the past two seasons.
The franchise moved its G League home base this season from the team’s El Segundo training facility to Acrisure Arena near Palm Springs. The Coachella Valley Lakers begin their regular season Friday, while the NBA club hosts Portland, one of only two teams to defeat Los Angeles so far.
Bronny James assigned to G League: what it means
The latest move keeps James in line for heavier minutes and on-court development with the Lakers’ affiliate, which has been a productive setting for him. Los Angeles continues to balance his growth with a strong start to the NBA season.
James’ assignment comes as the broader NBA landscape continues to evolve on and off the court. The Lakers will watch closely to see if his G League production can translate into a larger role at the next level.
