Hawaiʻi Police Department Officer Adam Roberg has been recognized with the Mothers Against Drunk Driving Award for his leadership in enforcement and education aimed at reducing impaired driving on the Big Island.

Roberg, part of the Area II Traffic Enforcement Unit, was honored for his sustained work targeting impaired drivers and for creating the department’s new Heal Our Highways program.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving Award recognizes safety initiative

According to the department, Roberg launched Heal Our Highways in October 2025 to remove impaired drivers from island roads and to promote safer driving habits. The initiative focuses on community education, public research and raising awareness about the consequences of impaired, distracted and reckless driving.

Over the past year, Roberg built partnerships with community and government agencies, organized sign-waving events around Hawaiʻi Island, hosted rallies and shared safety messages across multiple media outlets.

“The focus is on the surviving family members of those impacted by traffic fatalities and educating members of the community,” Roberg said in a department statement.

Colleagues said Roberg’s 16-year law enforcement career reflects a consistent commitment to traffic safety. His proactive enforcement and education efforts have contributed to reducing dangerous driving behaviors and improving roadway safety around the island.

“Officer Roberg’s dedication extends beyond enforcement,” Sgt. Thomas Koyanagi of the Area II Traffic Enforcement Unit said. “His vision for the Heal Our Highways program reflects his commitment to saving lives through education, prevention and community partnerships. This recognition by Mothers Against Drunk Driving is a testament to the positive difference he continues to make both on and off the roadway.”

The department congratulated Roberg on the honor and thanked Mothers Against Drunk Driving for its ongoing partnership in the mission to eliminate impaired driving and prevent tragedies on Hawaiʻi roadways.
