Jungle Tiny Desk Concert captures the UK collective’s knack for turning vintage soul and R&B into something fresh and otherworldly. Over the past decade, the group has refined a sound that pairs warm, familiar grooves with a subtle undercurrent of mystery and melancholy, inviting listeners to sway while wondering what lies beneath the shine.
Fronted by Tom McFarland, Josh Lloyd-Watson and Lydia Kitto, Jungle is known for live performances that flow without pause, and the Tiny Desk appearance stays true to that approach. The band threads more than a half-dozen songs into one continuous pulse.
As Lloyd-Watson puts it to the in-room audience, they will keep the music rolling, sliding from 2018’s Beat 54 (All Good Now) into Dominoes off the 2023 album Volcano. The group’s blend of performance and storytelling recalls how artists draw inspiration from jazz and other genres to create emotionally rich experiences.
The energy remains upbeat even when the lyrics turn wistful, touching on fading dreams in Casio, one-sided attraction in Someday, Somewhere, and the fight to stay steady when things unravel in The Wave. Midway through the set, the group’s six-part harmonies shine on the 2025 single Keep Me Satisfied, a high point before they wind down with a smoldering version of the 2023 breakthrough Back on 74.
